Graphic design

This project reimagines Nineteen Eighty-Four through the modular logic of Japanese Metabolism. The design translates systems of control into repeatable, expanding structures, where typography and layout operate as infrastructure. Organised into a sequence of evolving sections, the publication draws on Metabolist ideas of growth, transformation, and renewal while charting Winston Smith's trajectory from awakening and resistance to surveillance, capture, and eventual submission.

The book's structure mirrors the cyclical processes central to Metabolist thought, which understands cities, societies, and living systems as constantly shifting between construction and collapse. As readers progress through the publication, recurring visual elements are reconfigured, reflecting Winston's rise and ruin while suggesting that his story is not unique but part of a larger pattern. Through this approach, Orwell's narrative becomes a cycle rather than a linear journey, reinforcing the idea that systems of power continually adapt, regenerate, and reproduce themselves across time.
